The University of Bath’s new institutional-wide ‘Sport at Bath’ approach builds on the University’s reputation as a leading innovator in sports related research, teaching and student provision. The Business Development Manager is a core part of the approach, providing capacity to identify, coordinate and deliver related initiatives.

The University of Bath enjoys a strong reputation for:

  • The quality of our sport facilities
  • The excellence of our sports-related courses
  • The impact of our sports and health related research
  • The achievements of elite and student athletes who train at Bath
  • Innovation in the provision of Students’ Union (SU) sports related activities that promote inclusion across the student body, e.g. disability sport

The Sport at Bath approach, and the Business Development Manager role, will create a single point of entry for external partners who wish to engage with the University from the perspective of sport and deliver improved coordination across the adjacent but separate workstreams which have led to the above outcomes. It will better enable the University to position itself as an internationally leading player in sport-related research and education and to realise the resulting reputational and financial benefits. There will be a particular emphasis upon the University’s core research themes of health, digital and sustainability in relation to sport.

The primary objective for you will be to identify commercial opportunities and to encourage greater collaboration and coordination of sport-related activities across the University and with external partners.

To promote the successes of Sport at Bath and engage with our key stakeholders (e.g. applicants, students, alumni, industry, placement providers, academic research partners, international recruitment agents) you will also work with the University's:

You will report to the Sport at Bath Steering Group, which will provide strategic direction and guide the allocation of resources, set objectives, and ensure delivery of the project outputs and the achievement of project outcomes.

This role requires detailed knowledge, experience and credibility across the academic sports sector. Experience of developing sports-related partnerships for commercial and/or research value would be highly desirable. It would suit someone who is keen to be part of an accountable, fast-evolving initiative where their input will help shape future direction for the Sport at Bath approach.

This is a fixed-term role for an initial period of 2 years.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Emily Richards, Business Engagement Manager (, or Stephen Baddeley, Director of Sport (
