Due to an internal promotion we are looking for a part-time Faculty Accountant in the Department of Finance & Procurement to work 21.9 hours per week (0.6 fte).

The role sits within the Management Accounting team and supports the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Institute of Policy Research, the Department of Sport Development and Recreation, as well as Bath’s online course offerings.

About the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for a varied role involving both finance business partnering on the academic and non-academic side of the University.  Your work on Bath’s online courses will span multiple academic areas and professional services departments, reporting into the Online Courses Internal Board, chaired by the PVC Education.

The finance business partner element of the role provides the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of the factors driving income and costs in the Faculty and Department of Sport and to support them with strategic planning and other ad-hoc projects.

About you:

You may be in a management accounting role already and looking to develop finance business partnering skills to become a key advisor, or it could suit someone who enjoys working in a team and getting involved with different activities with the chance to develop and take ownership of these areas.

In this role you will be involved in:

  • Building a relationship with the Dean of Faculty/Director of Service, Heads of Department and other key colleagues to ensure they are fully supported in managing their financial position.
  • Producing budgets, forecasts and monitoring of actual spend against budget
  • Provide ad hoc advice and costings to the faculty/institute/department
  • Line management of one Assistant Accountant

 You will need:

  • To be a qualified accountant with experience or an interest in the Higher Education sector and how universities are funded
  • Strong accounting skills including budgeting, forecasting and other reporting
  • Great communication skills at all levels and the ability to work in a team
  • Good excel skills

About us:

We are a team of experienced accountants and accounting technicians, providing reporting, budgeting and forecasting information to both the Academic and Professional Service departments and to external funding and regulatory bodies.

Our team sits within the Finance & Procurement department, reporting to the Director of Finance, and we are based in the Virgil Building in the centre of Bath, although there will be a requirement to work on the main campus at times.

We operate a flexi-time policy and are currently trialling hybrid working which has suited our team well.
