Designability Charity Ltd is an independent research, design and development charity working to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and long-term health conditions. Our team of engineers, designers, therapists and technicians work in partnership with healthcare professionals, people with disabilities and end-users to develop innovative solutions to meet their needs. Our work is supported by a mix of charitable donations, commercial income and research grants.Designability is based in Bath at the Royal United Hospital and has a separate workshop unit within the city centre, where this role will be based.

We are at an exciting time in our history, experiencing unprecedented growth in demand for our products and services in the UK and overseas markets. To meet this demand we are expanding our manufacturing facilities and team and are looking for an outstanding Deputy Workshop Manager to take a leading role in this development.  This role will involve working closely with the Workshop Manager to assist with the management of the department, providing support and leadership to other team members and stepping up to act as Workshop Manager when required. This is a hands-on role, requiring the flexibility to change priorities based on the demands of the department, meaning hands-on assembly work, wiring/electrical, machining and fabrication.

You will ideally be from an engineering background with supervisory experience in a production environment in a small to medium sized enterprise. You will have knowledge of stock management and IT systems, be comfortable working with suppliers and maintaining relationships, whilst driving the highest standards of quality and reliability.  Designability is a manufacturer of class 1 medical devices, so experience of working within a regulated field and within a quality management system is desirable.

This is a small but high performing team and the ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual who is driven by the collective success of the organisation. The provision of our products directly makes a difference to the lives of people living with a disability and this will be a motivating factor for the successful applicant.
