Based in the Advanced Composites centre, and working closely with the Aerospace Engineering Research Centre, the post-holder will work as part of a team of multi skilled technicians, providing a service to both teaching and research in the department. This will entail provision of technical support, advice and guidance in the field of Composites to the academic, research and technical staff in the various laboratories and facilities across the Faculty of Engineering and Design’s four departments.

Manufacture of composite parts including lay-up and curing in the departmental Autoclave, as well as subsequent finishing of manufactured parts and preparation for destructive or non-destructive testing are a significant part of the role.

The post-holder will also have a line management responsibility for one other member of staff, within the Advanced Composites centre.

The wider team contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduates in a workshop environment and provide technical support during final year individual projects. As this is a student-facing role, the post-holder needs to confident working and communicating with a diverse student population. The team is responsible for ensuring a safe environment for students and colleagues.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is supported by a team of highly skilled technicians who provide technical advice and manufacturing support to our academic and research staff and to our students.
