An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Skills Centre at the University of Bath for a MAST Coordinator and Teaching Fellow. This role will lead, coordinate, develop and evaluate Mathematics and Statistics Teaching (MAST) collaborations between the Mathematics Resources Centre (MASH) and academic departments. This will enhance the teaching and revision of pre-university mathematical skills to complement and extend the remit of MASH. This is a part time position of 14.6 hours per week with a fixed term of 23 months.

We are looking for someone to work in partnership with academic staff to build high-quality, pedagogically sound, student-centred learning experiences. This includes:

  • coordinating design advice and support for academic staff
  • developing sustainable models of co-design and co-teaching
  • working with colleagues to integrate with student-facing services

MASH provides high-quality maths and statistics support to all members of the university. We are a flagship for academic skills support in the university, and are highly regarded at the national level where we contribute significantly to the work of the sigma Network.

As part of the MASH team, through the continual review and improvement of our services, help us meet the needs of all our students!

This role is one of two part time roles currently being advertised by MASH. Concurrent applications to both posts are welcome, from suitably qualified candidates, with the possibility of being appointed to both roles.

About you

As a qualified teacher of mathematics with experience in teaching the pre-university mathematics curriculum you will empathise with students experiencing barriers to learning. You will have a proven record of designing, developing and delivering high-quality, inclusive mathematics programmes and maths education projects including experience of:

  • leading projects and managing staff
  • building the mathematical teaching skills of non-maths specialists
  • working collaboratively with colleagues from different backgrounds

A good degree in the mathematical sciences, a postgraduate qualification in education and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalents will provide the underpinning knowledge to teach mathematical ideas using a variety of approaches. A range of teaching experience will assist with organisation, team-working, creativity and flexibility.

An interest in engaging with the wider mathematics support community, for example through the sigma Network and experience of securing funding to deliver development projects is beneficial.

Do you have the skills, experience, and motivation to help us to do this? If so, we encourage you to apply.
