As a Contracts Officer you will be a vital part of the process of the facilitation of world class research performed at the University of Bath. Working with the Research & Commercialisation Contracts team to deliver an effective contracts service to the various stakeholders at the University. We work closely with the various teams within RIS as well as others around the University and the Academic community at Bath in order to deliver the relevant contracts for the University. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Reviewing and negotiating incoming research-related contracts, in each case ensuring the right balance between speed and risk, as indicated by the Head of Contracts.
  • Liaising with academics and other stakeholders to obtain all necessary background and context
  • Using approved University template contracts as a basis for preparing research-related contracts with external parties
  • Using the RIS Contracts Management system to record activities.

You will report to the Head of Contracts who will provide overall management and leadership in how staff work within the team, as well as providing negotiating skills and advice on more difficult agreements and contractual matters.

The position will involve Working closely and collaboratively with other staff in the Contracts and Pre-Award teams, as well as other teams across the University, e.g. the doctoral college. The Contracts Officer will independently manage their own workload of contracts. 

Occasionally you may be asked to assist in the facilitation of CPD activities both within RIS and the University in general. This will form part of your substantive role and you will not receive additional payment for these activities.

The Research and Commercialisation team sits at a junction between the Pre Award, and Post Award teams providing contracts services between the award of a grant, and the performance of the project. Additionally the team provides ongoing support to projects as their contractual requirements change. The team performs a vital function in enabling research and must be able to be adaptable, and provide novel and innovative solutions to contracting issues as they arise.
