We have an excellent opportunity for an IT Systems Administrator to join our talented Servers and Storage team which is responsible for the design, implementation, and smooth operation of a wide range of core IT infrastructure, supporting the University's research, teaching and professional services. 

We are looking for someone self-motivated who enjoys a range of technically challenging work and is an excellent problem solver with a passion for emerging technologies.

About the role 

This is a pivotal role in advancing the Universities digital capabilities to be more user-centred, more agile, and cloud-based. It is an exciting time to join as we look ahead to transition our services to public cloud. Proven experience of provision of services via such technologies would be an advantage. Maintenance of existing services is also part of the role, ensuring security and availability while minimizing downtime and disruption.

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis. 

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure services, particularly compute and storage
  • Experience of virtualization technologies such as VMware, or Oracle zones
  • Experience of managing Linux and Microsoft Windows systems and services such as Active Directory
  • Maintenance and monitoring of systems to ensure services are resilient and performant
  • Methodical approach to incident management and problem resolution
  • Capable of managing small to medium projects
