The Careers Service at the University of Bath provides services to more than 17,000 current undergraduate and postgraduate students, Research Staff, and recent graduates. The Service’s professional team works with colleagues across the University to deliver high quality and professional careers support via bespoke activities within University Departments and to individuals through centrally-provided services. In this role you will work closely with Faculty and Departmental colleagues to provide bespoke support to their students, targeting activities where they can make the most impact. You will counsel students individually about their career choices and will deliver workshops and lectures on topics such as career planning, transferable skills, and application and interview skills as required. You will also design and deliver new sessions for small groups of students, which may be delivered using suitable technology and potentially outside of normal office hours, in the evenings and some Saturdays (for which TOIL is granted). You will develop strong relationships with your assigned Faculty, and support the Placement teams and other colleagues in their own delivery of activities. Initially this role will be linked with the School of Management, though from time to time Careers Advisers change their portfolio depending on Service needs. There will be additional opportunities to contribute to the wider work of the Careers Service, for example through writing on career-related topics for the Careers Service blog, and supporting marketing and communications activities.

You should be educated to at least first-degree level or equivalent, and preferably have both a postgraduate professional qualification in careers guidance and significant experience of working in careers guidance in higher education. Employment experience relevant to the types of careers University of Bath students aspire to enter would be desirable. A positive attitude and strong commitment to building client relationships across the University is essential.

This post is 0.5 FTE (averaging 18.25 hours per week), but the pattern of work is likely to vary slightly across the year in order to meet peak demands for the Careers Service in October/November and February/March each year. During these months it is likely that the post holder will work at least 3 days per week, and will therefore work fewer hours during University vacations.  This post is also being offered on a fixed term contract basis, with an anticipated duration of 12 months.
