Designability is a research and development charity based in the Wolfson Centre, Royal United Hospital. The organisation was founded more than 50 years ago as the Bath Institute of Medical Engineering with the aim of inventing medical equipment for people living with disabling conditions where there were none available. As times have changed so has the charity, now called Designability we employ a multi-disciplinary team in the areas of product design, User interface design, engineering and occupational therapy.   Through our expertise in human centred design we aim to enhance people’s lives by creating transformational products that redefine the experience and perception of disability and ageing.

Designability has a successful track record of developing and bringing new products to market. We achieve this by both working with commercial partners and maintaining our own manufacturing facility.  Our mission is to get the right products to those who need them. With a renewed organisational focus on the development of new products we make an immediate difference to people’s lives.

Our paediatric powered wheelchair ‘Wizzybug’ has put us in a world-leading position in early year’s powered mobility. We were the first organisation to develop products specifically for people living with Dementia, our work in this area is world-renowned and has led to the introduction of hundreds more products that benefit people’s lives.

The post comes with a competitive benefits package, including a generous paid holiday entitlement and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
