The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath is internationally recognised as a leading centre for teaching and research in the built environment. The Department came joint top in the Architecture, Built Environment and Planning unit of assessment in the 2014 REF and we are consistently at the top of the subject league tables. The University has received a Gold award in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

The Department wishes to appoint an outstanding and inspirational Teaching Fellow in Civil Engineering design. You will be expected to contribute to teaching, assessment and development of academic programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In particular you will contribute to the full time Undergraduate programmes in Civil Engineering and Civil & Architectural Engineering.

We are looking for someone with a dedication to the delivery of high quality teaching across a range of subjects within the field of Civil Engineering. In particular, experience in Transport and Infrastructure, Structural Design and Architectural Engineering would be welcome in order to help us deliver new undergraduate programmes in the near future.

Due to the joint nature of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, collaborative, integrated studio based design is central to our undergraduate teaching across all disciplines. With this in mind, your experience of practical engineering design through industry experience and a passion for creative engineering design and integrated/collaborative working is an essential requirement. We would expect you to lead design projects across the undergraduate programmes.

You will be expected to engage in administration, management and leadership activities related to teaching within the Department. Chartered Engineer status and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy would be an advantage, but training for this will be provided.

All applicants must include both a:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • 1 page outline of their teaching experience and approach to teaching

This is a mandatory component of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress with your application.

Informal enquiries about the post may be made to Professor Stephen Emmitt (+44 (0)1225 384722, email S.Emmitt@bath.ac.uk), Head of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering; or Dr Antony Darby (+44 (0)1225 383182, email A.P.Darby@bath.ac.uk), Head of Civil Engineering.

Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment and the Department recently received an Athena SWAN silver award. We particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups within academic posts.
