Our 50th Anniversary Prize Fellowships offer early-stage researchers the opportunity to join a cohort of like-minded rising research stars. These two-year research fellowships in our priority research areas are part of a scheme intended to fast-track fellows to a permanent appointment at Bath.

We are seeking 18 future academic leaders across a range of disciplines who will benefit from our well-resourced and supportive research environment.

As a member of this elite group, you will be on track to become a key member of our research community with a permanent academic position. In the Faculty of Science we will appoint a total of six Fellows to further strengthen and develop areas of existing research excellence.  One appointment will be made within the Evolutionary Biology theme of the Milner Centre for Evolution and the remaining five within the other priority areas.

  • Computational chemistry
  • Functional energy materials
  • Sustainable soft matter

Computer Science

  • Computer graphics
  • Computer vision
  • Human-computer interaction

Mathematical Sciences

  • Fundamental mathematics: Geometry and differential equations
  • Mathematical biology
  • Statistical applied mathematics

Pharmacy & Pharmacology

  • Medicines optimisation
  • Macromolecular medicines design and delivery
  • Mechanisms of inflammation and autoimmune disease


  • High-energy extragalactic astrophysics
  • Photonics
  • Theoretical soft matter physics

As part of your application you must provide:

  • a completed application form
  • an outline of your research plans over the next 3-5 years, showing how you will complement and enhance research within the priority research area (no more than 2 sides of A4, minimum font size 11)
  • a CV

The application process will ask you to select which area of research you wish to be apply for. If you are applying for more than one research area under the same faculty or institute, then you will need to specify this when prompted.
