Are you a creative developer who enjoys collaboration and brainstorming? 

Do you enjoy working with Ruby, or other languages (PHP, Python etc) and want to learn Ruby? 

The role:

As one of our Ruby Developers you will play a pivotal part in developing digital platforms and writing innovative software that makes a real difference to our student recruitment, research, community, and business activity.

You will work alongside developers, designers, and content experts and use agile methodologies to plan and implement features across our products.

A typical day could include:

  • writing code for a new feature
  • running a sprint retrospective
  • discussing new features with designers
  • pair programming with a colleague
  • taking part in a user research session
  • improving our automated processes
  • fixing bugs
  • learning new skills and tools

About you:

We are looking for someone who has:

  • web development skills with Ruby (or similar), HTML, JavaScript
  • experience building web applications and performance optimisation
  • a high attention to detail when quickly understanding and assessing requirements
  • a curious nature and can think critically
  • proven collaboration skills
  • a desire to learn and use their experience to help and support others
  • experience communicating and explaining technical language to non-technical audiences

If you haven't worked with Ruby before but have proven programming skills and a solid understanding of the software development process, then we would also love to hear from you. If you have experience  with MCV frameworks in other languages such as Django in Python, Laravel in PHP, ASP.NET in C# or Spring in Java, we are happy to guide you in your switch to Ruby on Rails
