The Department of Psychology have a new opportunity for a Research Associate/Fellow position to explore audience responses to immersive experiences. You will have a strong methodological background with an interest in developing studies exploring VR technologies and immersion. 

This is an opportunity within a larger collaborative team. The AHRC Cluster: Bristol and Bath Creative R&D is a newly funded research programme working in collaboration with the creative industries in Bristol and Bath. The partners are the University of Bath, University of Bristol, Bath Spa University, UWE and Watershed, working with a range of industry partners from film and television, theatre, publishing and computing.  This multi-disciplinary research project, which will be undertaken in collaboration with our industry partners including BBC R&D, Aardman Animation, RSC and Niantic, combines research expertise in areas such as computer science (vision and motion capture) human computer interaction, psychology, documentary, media and narrative. 

The project’s core aim is partnering with industry to understand user engagement across new platforms. Currently across Psychology and Computer Science at the Universities of Bath and Bristol we are exploring concepts such as immersion, attention over multiple displays and quality of graphics and the effect these have on, for example, empathy, recall and pro social behaviour.

The post is aimed at a researcher with a strong methodological background who is open to a mixed methods approach. A PhD in Psychology , Cognitive Science or Computer Science is a requirement. Some experience with 3D technology, in particular, virtual environments would be an advantage. 

This is a full time or part time post with an expected expiry date of 30th June 2021.
