The Skills Centre provides English language and academic skills courses to the University of Bath’s student community, both home and international, and makes a significant contribution to the University’s recruitment of international postgraduate students through the delivery of a Pre-sessional Programme offering intensive English language support. An integral and key component of this Programme is a Social and Cultural Programme providing extra-curricular experience through social/cultural events, and transitional support for our international students to prepare them for study on University of Bath and other UK university degree programmes.

We are seeking a dynamic, creative and effective individual for this exciting post, who will take a lead role in supporting and enhancing the international student experience for the Skills Centre, working in close partnership with the Head of English Language and Course Leaders, the Centre’s Operations team as well as the academic community and other Professional Services. As the post-holder, you will need an innovative, inclusive and highly collaborative approach to help seek ways of enhancing the student experience by overseeing and implementing a comprehensive level of student-facing support and administration. Key responsibilities will include the design and delivery of an integrated social and cultural programme, provision of pre-arrival support and student induction together with the recruitment, training and line management of a summer support team.

This is a challenging and varied role, which involves dealing with a wide range of student and staff-related matters at all levels, sometimes of a confidential and sensitive nature. You must be able to work on their own initiative, cope under pressure in a demanding environment, supervise a team of temporary staff, prioritise effectively and work to tight deadlines.

As the successful post-holder, you will join our Centre, which is a central Professional Service within the University comprising 60 staff fulfilling leadership and management, teaching, operational, technical and administrative support roles. Centre staff are located in two main locations on the University campus.

This position is offered on an annualised basis, and requires you to work more hours during certain periods of the year and less hours during other periods.  Pay is calculated based on the average number of weekly working hours across the year. For this role this is part-time 0.5 FTE – and it is expected that you will be required to work up to full time (36.5 hours per week) during the summer months, the remaining hours to be spread over the rest of the year - working pattern to be agreed on appointment.
