A part-time vacancy exists for an Editorial Assistant to support two journals edited by academic staff in the Department of Education at the University of Bath: the Journal of Education & Work (Editor Professor Hugh Lauder), and the Journal of Research in International Education (Editor Professor Mary Hayden).

Working closely with the Editors, and Book Reviews Editors as appropriate, you will provide support for the Editors’ work through liaising with authors, reviewers, book reviewers, editorial board members and publishers, mostly through on-line web-based systems.

You will co-ordinate the article review process, respond to queries from prospective authors, and provide support through the article submission process. You will help to ensure that turnaround time from article submission to authors being notified of the editorial decision is minimised, and will liaise with publishers regarding the production schedule and other matters.

Assisting the Editors in the production of annual reports and in organising meetings as required, you will also assist with any media enquiries and relevant publicity regarding the journal and the work of the editorial board, as well as responding to and administering general enquiries regarding the journals.

You will be capable of working independently and using your initiative, and will have excellent written and oral communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent organisational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills will also be an important expectation of this post.

This is a part-time role, working 3.65 hours per week (0.1 fte) for a period of 3 years. Details of the arrangement for deployment of the post will be agreed between the Editors and the successful candidate.

Enquiries about the post may be directed to Professor Mary Hayden (m.c.hayden@bath.ac.uk), however, please ensure that your application is submitted via the University website.
