The University of Bath is seeking a self-motivated Multiskilled Mechanical Operative/ Plumber to undertake planned and unplanned maintenance activities in the University's academic buildings, residences, and sports facilities. This role will undertake both planned and reactive maintenance and repair tasks across the range of mechanical building services, plant and equipment throughout the University estate. The successful applicant will also undertake some low-level electrical work and be expected to take part in the on-call rota. 

The successful candidate will join the Workshop team, dedicated to maintaining the upkeep University's buildings. The work is mostly on the campus, occasionally in the city. 

The ideal candidate 

  • Must have you served a recognised Apprenticeship, and attained City & Guilds Parts 1-3, or NVQ 2 in Plumbing, or related Engineering discipline to the Joint Industry Board – PHMES CSCS “Blue” card qualification standard
  • Good problem solving, customer service and communication skills are a prerequisite of the post
  • Either have demonstrable electrical skills or be willing to train for them
  • A Gas Safe qualification would be an advantage
  • Professional, committed and hard-working person, who can work at an efficient pace and on their own initiative and work well with the other team members
  • Manage time effectively to ensure tasks are handled accurately and on time therefore ensuring we deliver a high standard of work to the client
  • A flexible approach to working using own initiative to prioritise and complete all tasks in a timely and professional manor
  • Ensuring that you are always working safely and to the Approved Codes of Practice for the relevant service that are being carried out
  • Ideally able undertake overtime if/ when required

The successful candidate will join the Workshop Team at one of the UK's top university's with a fantastic reputation for student experience. The Workshop Team are a part of the Department of Estates, which is responsible for the development, upkeep and management of all the University's land and buildings.    Their upkeep is a vital part of the University of Bath’s reputation for exceptional student experience.
