The Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI) is an innovative and agile leader in mathematical sciences in the UK. Its mission is to develop and apply mathematical sciences research, aiming especially at economic and societal impact, and to generate fundamental insights beyond the mathematics discipline.

IMI engages across many disciplines and sectors; for example, the Institute has current or recent projects that link to application areas that include natural hazard risks, data analysis for social policy, materials science, automotive engineering, physiology, and imaging.

IMI seeks to recruit a Prize Fellow to work in one of the following three areas:
  • Machine learning, especially at the interface of probabilistic modelling and neural computation, and in the mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence systems.
  • Statistics and data science, especially novel methodologies and their applications in environmental science, healthcare, or bioinformatics.
  • Mathematical modelling in industry, especially in the development of analytical and computational mathematically-based skills, and their application to industrially-based challenges.
Applications are invited from candidates working in one of these areas, which may be broadly interpreted.

As part of your application you must provide:

a completed application form
an outline of your research plans over the next 3-5 years, showing how you will complement and enhance research within the priority research area (no more than 2 sides of A4, minimum font size 11)
a CV

The application process will ask you to select which area of research you wish to be apply for. If you are applying for more than one research area under the same faculty or institute, then you will need to specify this when prompted.

If you are applying to more than one faculty or institute then you will need to submit separate applications for the different vacancies.  To help you with this, our online recruitment system allows you to save your previous applications and re-submit them.
