The role

The University of Bath is seeking a self-motivated Multi-skilled Carpenter/ Joiner to undertake planned and unplanned maintenance activities across the University's academic buildings, residences, and sports facilities. This role will undertake minor repairs and maintenance of the building fabric, doors, windows and hard landscaping, along with the creation of simple, good quality bespoke furniture and equipment.

This role is based in the Maintenance Team, a part of the Department of Estates who are responsible for the strategic planning, development and management of the University's lands and buildings.

The post holder will also undertake some low level mechanical and electrical work and be expected to take part in the on call rota.

The ideal candidate 

  • Must have completed a recognised carpentry or building services apprenticeship and be qualified to minimum City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification
  • Must have relevant technical experience in larger buildings or commercial facilities
  • Should have extensive knowledge and experience in the maintenance and repair of building fabric, doors, windows and carpentry.  
  • Good problem solving, customer service and communication skills are a prerequisite of the post
  • Either have demonstrable mechanical or electrical skills or be willing to train for them.
