The Department for Health is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Physical Education. We are looking for someone with an established research track record or emerging research potential in this area. Particular topics of research expertise may include health and/or physical activity promotion in Physical Education, pedagogy and identity, physical literacy, and/or other topics related to Physical Education. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach primarily on the BSc Sport Management & Coaching undergraduate programme (e.g., topics such as equality and inclusivity in Physical Education, teaching and learning theories, and Physical Education policy and curricula) and to supervise undergraduate research projects.

Our Department provides excellent opportunities for academic teaching and research. We currently have over 60 core members of research and teaching staff, and 35 postgraduate students from across the disciplines.  Our strengths as a Department include the opportunity for interdisciplinary work, and we encourage collaborations with other Departments within the University of Bath, and external partners and stakeholders. The postholder would have the opportunity to be a part of the Department’s Physical Culture, Sport, and Health Research Group.

We teach across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes related to health, exercise and sport. The University of Bath was named Sports University of the Year 2018, and we are currently ranked 10th in the 2019 QS World Rankings for Sport-related subjects.

Our research is organised around three themes: Lifelong Health and Wellbeing, Improving Human Function, and a Fair and Vibrant Society. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2014), we returned staff across three Units of Assessment, ranking 5th (Sport & Exercise Science) and 6th (Allied Health Professions), with ~90% of our outputs rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (i.e. 3-4*).

Initial enquiries should be directed to Dr Fiona Gillison (Head of Department for Health, Tel: +44 (0)1225 384387, email: f.b.gillison@bath.ac.uk) or Dr Brad Millington (Director of Studies, BSc Sport Management & Coaching, tel: +44(0)1225 384357, email: b.millington@bath.ac.uk).

The Department for Health is dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for our staff and students. We hold a Bronze Athena SWAN award in recognition of our ongoing commitment to gender equality.

The closing date for this job opportunity has now passed, and applications are no longer being accepted for this position
