Applications are invited for a Research Associate in the Department for Health at the University of Bath in the field of Exercise Oncology and Immunology.

The post-holder will lead a Cancer Research UK Pioneer Award project that aims to establish whether exercise can be used to aid the detection and treatment of blood cancers.

Specifically, the project aims to demonstrate in people with leukaemia that exercise can be used to enhance: (i) the diagnostic detection of minimal residual disease, and (ii) the efficacy of immunotherapy, via the augmentation of immune competency.

The successful candidate will join a research team, led by Dr John Campbell, Dr James Turner (University of Bath), and Dr Sally Moore (Bath Royal United Hospitals NHS Trust).

The successful candidate will have a PhD degree (or equivalent qualification) in immunology, and will have considerable experience of flow cytometry and associated immunological techniques. Candidates with a PhD in exercise physiology (or a similar field) with relevant biochemistry laboratory skills are also encouraged to apply. It is highly desirable that the post-holder has demonstrable experience of conducting exercise testing in clinical populations, preferably in people with cancer. The post-holder will also have a strong track-record of publications in leading journals for their discipline, and excellent organisational and communication skills.

The main duties and responsibilities will include: participant recruitment and screening, conducting exercise testing, collecting blood samples, and undertaking immunological assays (e.g., flow cytometry and cell function measures), cell culture and other associated immunological techniques.
