The Department of Psychology seeks to appoint a highly motivated (social/environmental) psychologist to work as a full-time Research Associate. The post-holder will support a new collaborative research project with Bath and North-East Somerset Council exploring the psychological dimensions of the upcoming implementation of the Clean Air (charging) Zone (CAZ)in Bath city centre. The post-holder will co-design and lead research that draws upon theoretical understandings from social and cognitive psychology to explore how best to implement the scheme so as to encourage residents and visitors in Bath to view improved air quality as a shared moral responsibility. This will include being involved in the supervision of PhD students and Research Assistants who will also be employed on the project. In addition, the Research Associate will lead on recruitment of participants, data analysis, data management, report writing, presentations, and the design of future research bids. The Department actively supports continuing professional development, and the post-holder will be encouraged to take up relevant training and activity.

The Department has an established tradition of ‘theoretically informed applied psychology’. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, staff were returned in different units of assessment, the largest of which (Allied Health Professions) obtained the highest REF2014 rating across the whole University. In recent years, the Department has repeatedly featured in the top five places in the country in The Complete University Guide and The Times Good University Guide.
