University of Bath

Ben Smith Head of Placements, Projects and International Studies (School of Management)

Ben is responsible for the Undergraduate student Placement, Project, Year Abroad and International Studies teams within the School of Management.

Role

Ben’s role is to lead the School of Management’s Placement, Project, Year Abroad and International Studies teams. This covers the opportunities that our undergraduate students undertake outside of the School across the full suite of degree programmes, circa 550 student work placements and 120 academic exchanges per year. We focus on both UK and international opportunities - our high calibre students can work anywhere in the world, and we have exchange partnerships globally. Ben also has a wider Employability and Business Engagement role within the School, working with key corporate partners on a range of employability initiatives, plus works collaboratively with staff in the three Faculties to provide a joined up approach to employer engagement across the campus.

Career

Ben moved into a placements role at Bath after 10 years of running an independent chain of music and clothing stores. Passionate about the employability of our students at Bath, Ben has been involved in helping them into great placements and graduate careers for over 12 years. This has been at a pivotal time for the School of Management as we have significantly increased our student numbers and degree programmes.

Education

Ben has a BSc (hons) degree in English and American Studies.
