Dr Emma Gibbard Head of Research Excellence and Impact (Job Share)
Responsible for leading the Research Excellence and Impact Team.
Role
Emma is responsible for leading the Research Excellence and Impact Team to support the University to enhance its research culture, accelerate its research impact and support the University’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission.
She will support you to plan for and evidence impact through:
- developing the University’s strategic approach to supporting research impact
- building knowledge and skills in research impact
- embedding impact into research management and information systems
- developing and identifying tools and resources to support with impact planning and evidencing
- working collaboratively across the University and with external partners to support impact, including Faculty and Departmental Impact Leaders and the Public Engagement Unit
Emma also supports the University with identifying and developing impact case studies for our Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission.

Career
Before joining RIS, Emma was Head of Evaluation for the Avon Primary Care Research Collaborative (APCRC). She was responsible for supporting commissioners with embedding evaluation into commissioning processes and using evidence to inform decision-making.
Emma has over 15 years' experience of working in research, evaluation and service development in the field of health and social care. She has worked in the private, public and academic sectors.
