Rémi Castaing Instrument Specialist - Materials Characterisation
Rémi manages the materials characterisation equipment in MC², and supports researchers by giving expert advice.
Rémi maintains and manages equipment related to thermal analysis, polymer characterisation and surface analysis in MC². This includes all the associated aspects of overseeing this equipment, including managing of budgets, prioritising and planning resources, and other necessary administrative duties.
He provides day-to-day expert advice and support to all users of the facility. Rémi also carries out training courses and delivers specialist lectures targeted at PhD students to introduce current and new techniques.
He actively promotes and extends the materials analysis capability by collaborating with University of Bath academics and industrial partners. Rémi is also responsible for maintaining the MC² webpages.
Prior to his role at the University of Bath, Rémi worked in a Parisian start-up company developing new industrial applications of quantum dots.
He also spent half a year in the Energy Centre of the Netherlands. Here he worked within the photovoltaic module group, contributing to extending the lifetime of solar panels.
Rémi graduated in 2011 from the École Nationale Supérieure for Chemistry, Physics and Biology in Bordeaux, France, with a specialisation in materials for energy and transport, leading to both a Master of Research and a Diplôme d'Ingénieur (equivalent to a MSc in Engineering).
In 2014 he received his PhD in materials science from the University of Nantes, France. His research project focused on the aging of battery materials, and was supervised by Dr Philippe Moreau in the Institute of Materials.
