Luis Rodriguez Mathematics Support Tutor / On Track to Bath Science Coordinator

Luis organises a programme of Mathematics outreach for BTEC students, as well as coordinating the Science stream for the On Track to Bath programme.


Working as a member of the Widening Participation Office, Luis delivers a programme of science and mathematics outreach for secondary schools and F.E. Colleges, Luis works with under-represented students to encourage and support them to consider higher education as an option.

Luis is an educator who believes strongly that students improve their knowledge and understanding more effectively when they approach learning in a contextualised manner. A hands-on approach to learning is central to this philosophy; ‘work-based learning’ being more beneficial to students than rote learning and regurgitating facts.

Luis has worked in the Widening Participation Office since 2012 prior to this he has had over 30 years’ experience teaching in the state secondary school sector, mainly as a Head of Physics/Head of Science Faculty in schools in Bath and Bristol.

He has extensive knowledge of the examination system, having been an examiner at GCSE, A level and International Baccalaureate, coursework moderator and consultant, examination writer and paper reviewer as well as a new course presenter giving INSET to Science teachers following AQA Science GCSE syllabi.
