Dr Amy Birch Researcher Development Manager
Amy manages and delivers training and professional development opportunities for all research staff.
Role
Amy is the University lead for researcher development. She is responsible for:
- supporting the recruitment, retention, and development of diverse and talented researchers across the university
- managing and delivering training opportunities, including the Academic Career Academy and GW4 Crucible
- providing strategic planning and effective engagement for a network of highly skilled research staff to make informed career choices
- leading the delivery of the Researcher Development Concordat within the University

Amy also works with the Academic Staff Development team in Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) and is part of the Academic and Professional Development for all Staff (APDaS) programme. She is part of the internal coaching network available for all staff at University.
Career
Before joining the University of Bath in 2020, Amy worked as the Research Staff Development Consultant at King’s College London. Prior to this, she was a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London.
Education
Amy has a PhD in Neuroscience from Trinity College Dublin and MSc in Evolutionary Psychology from University of Liverpool.
She is a EMCC-qualified Coach Practitioner.
