Gillian O’Carroll Widening Participation Support Administrator

Gillian is responsible for providing administrative support to the Teaching Ambassador Scheme and the Nuffield Research Placements Scheme.

Role

Gillian provides administrative support to the Nuffield Research Placement scheme for year 12 STEM students in the South West region. The placements provide the opportunity to work alongside professional scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians.

Gillian also supports the Teaching Ambassadors scheme. University of Bath students are assigned to local schools and colleges and assist with a range of activities, including the provision of subject specialist classroom support under the director of a teacher.

Career

Gillian has worked for the University since 2004 initially working as Postgraduate Administrator (Taught) within the School for Health, supporting Masters-level online distance learning programmes. When the School became part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Gillian moved to the role of Doctoral Programmes Officer. Gillian joined the Widening Participation Office in May 2016 as a Widening Participation Support Administrator

Education

After leaving school at 16 and training in and working in childcare for several years, Gillian attended Colleg Harlech in Wales, a residential adult education college for mature students. to gain a university entrance qualification. Gillian entered university as a mature student in 1997, graduating in 2000.
