Our group researches work, welfare and poverty, how this shapes policies and the impact on families.

We carry out research into group inequalities, access to employment and social exclusion

Our research

Our researchers are part of the Department of Social & Policy Sciences. Research is focused on the following areas:

  • major UK and international policy and academic debates regarding group inequalities in access to and returns from employment
  • policies as vehicles for addressing poverty and social exclusion
  • reinforcing active citizenship and renewed debates around the quality of work and its contribution to wellbeing

We are also interested in the gendered and other group divisions of paid and unpaid work, and the trade-offs between domestic caring, paid employment, and family outcomes.
