The School of Management has received an Athena SWAN Bronze Award. The Athena SWAN Charter recognises the work of a university department to address and improve gender equality.

A starting point to a more inclusive future

Professor Veronica Hope Hailey, Dean of the School and University Vice President, said: ‘The award means a great deal to the School and to me personally.

'To quote Ruth Bader Ginsburg: “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”

‘This is just a starting point,’ Veronica added. ‘We have committed to a five-year plan of initiatives in gender and diversity.’

The University has held an institutional bronze award since 2009.

The Athena SWAN charter

Athena SWAN was established in 2005 to advance the careers of women in science, engineering, maths and medicine.

In 2015 it expanded to recognise the work in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law.

The School's Departmental Self-Assessment Team (DSAT) is co-chaired by Professor Mike Lewis and Dr Andrea Herepath. DSAT is responsible for collating and submitting the School's Athena SWAN application.
