The University of Bath became a signatory to the UK-Singapore Universities Alliance for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (UKSAEI) in April 2021.

In October 2021, five Bath students joined seventy-five other students from both the UK and Singapore to take part in a two – week Climate Change Hackathon. The Hackathon, in collaboration with the British High Commission Singapore Science and Innovation Network, aimed to support the global campaign #RacetoZero to rally momentum amongst universities and businesses to help generate innovative ideas from students to address the global climate issues.

The event saw students team up in small groups and tasked with a problem statement around developing solutions or processes for UK and Singapore organisations to adopt to mitigate climate change-related issues. To do this the students engaged in workshops and seminars and then developed business ideas that support the Net Carbon Zero goals. The Hackathon was thoroughly enjoyed by the Bath students who took part and concluded with each group pitching their ideas to a prestigious panel of judges including HE Kara Owen, British High Commissioner to Singapore, Richard Warburton, President of British Chambers of Commerce Singapore, and Hugh Edmiston, Senior Vice President of Singapore Management University.

Dimo Dimov, a professor from the School of Management at Bath, hosted a masterclass as part of the Hackathon on the 28th October, and shared his book, The Reflective Entrepreneur, with all the participants to help them with their pitches.

Zsis Tzifas Kratiras, a participant of the Hackathon reflected:

It was a full 10 day 3h per day event that included both presentations and 2h team collaboration from members for both the Uk and Singapore. Even if my team didn't win, I had such a good time. From collaborating to hearing all these interesting pitches and presentations from participants and mentors to working closely with complete strangers, it was an event to remember. I learned a lot of new information about decarbonising the system and reducing the carbon footprint from all different sectors and above all I met a lot of new people.
