Undergraduate students Elliott Powell and Kiara Singh will represent the University of Bath at this year’s global One Young World (OYW) summit in Belfast.

OYW is a global community bringing together young leaders, business experts, policymakers, humanitarians, activists, and entrepreneurs from around the world to enact significant positive change.

Elliott, who studies BSc Politics and International Relations said:

I am excited to be representing our university at the OYW summit in Belfast this year. I am grateful to have been given the unique opportunity to showcase how students at the University of Bath are committed to driving positive change. I look forward to collaborating with global leaders and engaging in meaningful conversations, sharing innovative ideas, and working towards tangible solutions to tackle the most pressing issues that face our world.

Kiara, a BSc Management student, said:

I am filled with gratitude to have been selected as one of the University's delegates. I look forward to upholding our values, work and achievements at a global platform while bridging the institution and the broader community to foster meaningful relationships. I am excited to attend the OYW Belfast Summit and begin the work we feel passionate about, exchange knowledge and ideas, contribute to the discourse surrounding crucial topics and make a positive and sustainable contribution to society.

As well as commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, OYW Belfast 2023 will feature plenary challenges including:

  • the global food crisis
  • education and equality
  • mental health
  • peace and reconciliation
  • responsible stewardship of our planet’s resources

Elliott and Kiara also become the Co-Chairs for the University’s Student Organising Committee, which will plan and host the One Young World Bath (OYWB) caucus in March 2024.

They will be joined on the committee by Team Leaders Nadine Guerfi (BSc Politics with Economics), JJ Baker (BSc Business) and Charlotte Matthews (BSc International Development with Economics), who will start the initial planning for the on-campus event over the summer.

There are a further 12 Student Organising Committee roles available to all current Bath students. Applications will open in September 2023 and students will receive information on how to apply.
