Come and join us to celebrate and explore the University of Bath’s European collaborations on Thursday, 14 November. The International Relations Office (IRO) and Research and Innovation Services (RIS) have joined forces to organise a day dedicated to our research and partnerships in Europe.
Inviting all colleagues and interested guests, the event will take from 9.30am to 3pm in 4 West 1.2 on the Bath campus.
The event will be a showcase of successful European projects managed by researchers at Bath, including projects led by Bath academics in HORIZON 2020 programmes and partnerships seed-funded by the IRO International Funding Schemes.
Speakers will represent research across disciplines and will include Prof. Julie Barnett (Psychology), Dr Nick Townsend (Health), Prof. Alison Walker (Physics), Prof. Michele Meo (Mechanical Engineering), and Prof. Pete Walker (Architecture and Civil Engineering). A new European network on Citizenship in Higher Education will be presented by Emily Richards (Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences) and Joshua Callander (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion).
An opportunity to share good practice and identify future networks, the event will also feature presentations from sector experts, including Malgorzata Czerwiez, European Advisor at the UK Research Office (UKRO) and Anne-May Janssen, Head of European Engagement at Universities UK International (UUKI).
Molly Southwood, Deputy Director & Head of Alumni Engagement at the Department of Development & Alumni Relations (DDAR) will highlight opportunities for connecting with our alumni community in Europe, while Paul Davies, Head of the Bristol & Bath Brussels Office, will share how colleagues can engage with our University's representative office in Brussels, which was launched a year ago.
During the day, colleagues will further have the chance to meet and network over lunch, as well as discuss potential European grant proposals in individual surgeries offered by UKRO in the afternoon.

Whatever happens with Brexit the UK will remain an important part of Europe! Collaborations with continental universities and businesses are essential for the continued health of our research environment. This showcase of collaborative projects underlines the importance of these collaborations, which goes way beyond mechanistic access to funding mechanisms to the opportunities for researchers to work with the very best partners, from academia or from outside, in order to address the major challenges that we face together.

Collaboration in research and education between the UK and the rest of Europe predate the birth of the European Community. Whatever happens with Brexit, these links will continue. This event showcases some of the more recent achievements of the University of Bath in collaboration with European institutions.
