Following the publication of the new Teaching Capture Policy, approved and introduced in April this year, and to ensure we operate within the bounds of GDPR and data protection legislation, we are unable to re-introduce the scheduling system that was in operation prior to March 2020.

Instead, for the academic year 2021/22, the General Teaching Areas (GTAs) will continue to work as they have done over the last 18 months. In practice, this means that you are in control of the sessions that you record, but you will need to remember to press Record in a teaching room if you want to record the session you are giving, this will not happen automatically.

What the changes are

When you enter a General Teaching Area (GTA) recordings will no longer start automatically. Instead, the person hosting the lecture will need to start this process manually.

What this means for you

  • We recommend at least 5 minutes preparation time for first set up, you will need to:
  1. Log-in and select the correct folder for the recording to be saved to
  2. Check the audio and cameras are set up how you want them.
  3. Wear microphone
  4. Press Record when ready

For further guidance, please watch the video

  • There will be a full set of instructions (with screenshots) for each room mounted on the lectern which will detail the settings required for Panopto, (Re:View). You can view the instructions online
  • Reminders to record are being provided via digital messaging on the PC desktop, we are also exploring the introduction of recording lights as a visual prompt. The computer in the room will still be used for teaching capture purposes, even if you choose to use a laptop as your source of display.
