Due to a minor maintenance issue access to 2 West, Claverton Rooms was temporarily restricted. This issue has been resolved by our contractors and the area confirmed as suitable and safe for continued use.
In this instance the maintenance issue had occurred during the night in one of our older buildings. Buildings built before the year 2000 often contain some level of asbestos containing material which the University carefully assesses, records and manages to ensure the safety of staff and students. Our security team followed the correct procedure, shutting the area as a precaution whilst the risk to staff and students was assessed as per the Universities procedures.
The Claverton Rooms are now open and can be used as normal, its closure was a precautionary measure and we apologies for any inconvenience or concern caused.
