Darren Chitty, Accommodation Property Manager in the Department of Estates, has been recognised as Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Southwest Higher National Certificate (HNC) Student of the Year.

The award was presented to Darren at a celebration evening on 8 February 2019 at the Marriott Hotel, Bristol. Darren has been studying for his HNC in Building Services qualification via University of the West England Faculty of Environment and Technology (UWE-FET) at Bath College.

Professor Bernie Morley, acting Vice-Chancellor said of Darren:

This is a tremendous achievement which reflects Darren’s hard work, and commitment to achieving further qualifications.

We are very proud of this achievement, and Darren’s drive to gain extra skills and knowledge is very rewarding for the University.

Patrick O’Flynn, Associate Head of Department at UWE-FET said of the win:

Darren has been an enthusiastic and diligent student throughout his studies at Bath College. One of the most impressive things about Darren was his commitment to independently research the subjects and broaden his learning outside of his day-to-day work needs, or the curriculum.

Darren not only did more units than was required for accreditation of the HNC but he clearly invested a lot of time into his studies. Darren was an engaged participant in the class group and able to articulate his own knowledge well to assist others in the group.”
