Fotios Petropoulos promoted to Professor

Fotios Petropoulos has advanced to the next stage in his career, as a Full Professor of Management Science.

Congratulations to Fotios Petropoulos who has been promoted to Full Professor of Management Science.

This appointment recognises Fotios’s hard work and leadership in the field of forecasting (as well as management science and operations management generally) across both research and teaching. He already has an international standing in the forecasting community and he will continue to advance the School and SWALOS’ reputation on the international stage.

Emeritus Professor Paul Goodwin said, "I was delighted to hear the news that Fotios had been promoted to a chair in Management Science. I have worked with him on several research projects and have always been impressed by his intellectual contribution and his energy and commitment, together with his excellent organisational skills. He has an international reputation for innovative and impactful research and his promotion is very much deserved".

Fotios is a member of the Centre for Smart Warehousing and Logistics Systems (SWALOS) and the Information, Decisions & Operation division at the School of Management.

He is interested in research on time series forecasting, judgmental approaches for forecasting, statistical and judgmental model selection and integrated business forecasting processes. He specialises in the interaction of managerial judgment and statistical algorithms. Currently, he is focusing on how we can improve the role of judgment in forecasting through efficient support systems but also how insights from judgment can be translated into improved automatic algorithms.

Fotios has been at the School of Management since September 2016. Before this, he was a lecturer (assistant professor) at Cardiff Business School and a senior research associate at Lancaster University Management School. Fotios was awarded his Doctoral in Engineering by the National Technical University of Athens in 2012. He is currently the Director of Studies for the programme MSc in Operations, Logistics & Supply Chain Management and an Editor for the International Journal of Forecasting.

"I am humbly grateful to be promoted to Professor. It is an incredible recognition of the work I've done. I feel fortunate to be part of the School of Management at the University of Bath and I'm looking forward to more research and teaching successes", said Fotios.
