Ahead of the deadline in February 2020, the International Relations Office would like to send out a reminder to colleagues that we are still accepting nominations for Global Chairs in Research or Social Innovation for the 2020/21 academic year.

Building on our successful Global Chair scheme, which has attracted distinguished international visiting professors to our University, this call invites nominations for prominent scholars and practitioners to engage in high-profile research or network-building activities at Bath.

During their time at Bath, Global Chairs will be involved in a programme of activities that develops our international research networks or cultivates new practice-led partnerships. In addition, we encourage our Global Chairs to connect with our wider University community, providing mentorship to our students and young scholars, engaging with our alumni, and building new links across departments, and between research and practice.

Previous Global Chairs have included Professor Anthony Bebbington (Clark University), Professor Timothy Mitchell (Columbia University), Professor Professor Ramsés H. Mena (UNAM) and Professor Philip Power (UC Davis).

With the aim of enhancing our University’s international profile and developing long-term institutional partnerships, this call offers two nomination strands.

Global Chair (Research)

Distinguished academics from universities and research institutes outside of the UK may be nominated as a Global Chair (Research). We encourage nominations that develop existing research links and explore new interdisciplinary networks or knowledge partnerships for the University of Bath.

Global Chair (Social Innovation)

A new strand for a Global Chair (Social Innovation) invites internationally recognised leaders of practice in the non-for-profit or philanthropic sector, in public policy, or in an international organisation or social enterprise, to join the University for practice-led engagement with our researchers or professional staff.

Decisions on awards will be made by a selection panel chaired by the Pro-Vice Chancellor (International and Doctoral), and comprising of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research), the Deans or Directors of Administration, and the Director of International Relations.

Eligibility

Nominators of a Global Chair (Research) must be Academic staff from the Education and Research job family at the University of Bath, with a contract of employment for the full duration of the proposed project.

Nominators of a Global Chair (Social Innovation) must be Academic staff from the Education and Research job family or staff from the Management, Specialist and Administration job family at the University of Bath, with a contract of employment for the full duration of the proposed project.
