The Institute for Policy Research (IPR) internship scheme is a new programme for undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Bath, that provides excellent work experience in the field of public policy research.

As an IPR intern, students will have the unique opportunity to work with IPR colleagues and support a research project or projects, and develop their professional skills in academic research.

Ideally suited for those with a background in economics, the IPR internship will enable students to develop their communication and research writing skills, as well as their skillset in quantitative and qualitative analysis.

IPR intern Catrin Owen (BSc Economics) explains:

"I have developed my skills in secondary data analysis, interviewing, editing and drafting reports. I have enjoyed the flexibility of the work and the interactions with the team and external stakeholders online.”

The internship is also provides students with experience in applying their degree to the workplace. On his experience as an IPR intern, Jac McCluskey (BSc Economics) adds:

"I benefitted a great deal from my summer internship with the IPR. During our collaboration, Dr Charles Larkin and Dr Shaen Corbet provided comprehensive guidance on how to apply the knowledge I had accumulated from my degree to research on a relevant market. At all times, I felt that my input was valued, which was particularly encouraging. Thanks to the IPR, I see a career in this sector, and am excited for the future.”

Though intended for the summer months, applications are open throughout the year.
