Lyn Hanning, Director of Practice Based Learning and Head of Pharmacy Practice in the Department of Life Sciences has been awarded a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship.
The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme celebrates and recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in higher education and Lyn is the only pharmacist to feature in this year’s awards.
Lyn has achieved great success at Bath in designing and delivering a comprehensive practice-based learning strategy and developed innovative approaches to curriculum design and careers support at Bath. She leads a team of pharmacy clinical academic staff delivering high quality outcomes for their students across both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Lyn said: “I am thrilled to be recognised in this way. I have spent many years supporting the pharmacy workforce and whilst this is very special personally, it is also a wonderful tribute to all the colleagues that work with me supporting pharmacy education.” The scheme is open to all UK Higher Education Providers and each one can nominate up to three members of staff.
The University submitted three nominations, and whilst our other two colleagues were unsuccessful in what was an especially competitive year, special mention is in order for Dr Fran Laughton, Director of Teaching in the Department of Physics, and Dr Gail Forey, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education, for their excellent work in their own discipline areas for teaching and learning.
Fran has a sustained track record focussing on enhancement of the opportunities for authentic engaged learning for Physics students.
Gail undertakes research and leadership focussing on disciplinary literacy and pedagogy ensuring access to the curriculum, improving communication and learning.
Professor Ian White, Vice-Chancellor, said: “I am delighted to see Lyn awarded this Fellowship, both because it signifies success for Lyn and her team at the very highest national level, and also because it recognises the excellent work that she is doing locally here at Bath and regionally in the South West.
