For Mental Health Awareness Week we wanted to take the opportunity to highlight some of the things at University you have access to as a student, plans for the future and how you can get involved.

The theme this year is loneliness and there are a number of activities to support you or to help you connect with others:

  • Our Social Networking Group is a great way to meet other students in a safe space.
  • Umii is a free app that matches you with likeminded University of Bath students based on your interests and hobbies
  • The SU run a number of Student Groups that you can get involved in throughout the year.
  • Come along to a Be Well Event including dog walking, gardening and workshops. All of which are not only great for your wellbeing but a good opportunity to meet others.
  • The new Be Well App is full of resources and activities to support your wellbeing

Read our full guide on getting support if you or someone else is feeling lonely or isolated.

Future plans

As well as the selection of current opportunities above we have already started planning for next year. After consultation with the SU and Student Minds we will be running campaigns and events specifically for male mental health as we know men are less likely to seek support.

We will be exploring how we can offer more Social Networking Group and mixing opportunities to all students.

We are trialling workshops and training to help you, if you are supporting friends.

We will continue to have a fantastic offer of students groups and sports from our SU, and Student Services will continue to offer wellbeing activities and workshops throughout the year to support your wellbeing.

Let us know what you think

We have started to run student focus groups to explore what mental health support and initiatives students would like to see. We are planning to run more over the summer. If you would like to be involved in these please contact us at the bottom of the page.

Support

We recognise that connecting with others can for some be harder than it sounds and that this is only one aspect of mental health. If you are finding it difficult to connect with others or something else is troubling you, reach out to one of our services at the University who are always open to talk it through:

  • Our Wellbeing Team are available every day of the year from 9-5pm
  • Talk Now is available 24/7 meaning there is always someone to talk to at the end of the phone or live chat no matter what time of day it is or where you are.
  • The SU Advice and Support Service offers confidential and independent advice on academic, housing or personal challenges.
