Over 170 students, staff and donors attended a successful Scholarship Reception for our incoming PGT scholars at the Roman Baths on 2 November 2022.
The evening celebrated the success of those awarded PGT scholarships in the beautiful surroundings of the ancient heritage site. Scholars were formally welcomed to Bath by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian White and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), Professor Julian Chaudhuri.
The scholars, who represented a variety of PGT courses and came from a wide array of nations, spent the evening celebrating their achievements as well as meeting fellow students.
Speaking on the evening, Professor White said: “It is a genuine pleasure for me to be in this most iconic and magical setting of the Roman Baths to welcome postgraduate scholarship students into our very special community at the University.
"Our scholarships are awarded on merit, recognised academic excellence and leadership potential, as well as extracurricular skills and experience. Achieving a place at the University is by no means easy, securing a place and gaining a scholarship to study here is a real testament to your talent and potential, and so please accept my congratulations.
"I’ll also express my sincere gratitude because actually, we are grateful that you are here. You matter. We will learn from you. You will bring perspectives that we don’t have. Your insights and ideas will bring a great deal, I have no doubt. And so, thank you so much and we look forward to your contributions to making this University community a better place."
Navdeep Uppal, Head of Postgraduate Taught Student Recruitment, said: "It’s always a delight to see our postgraduate scholars in person, as we celebrate their successes and wish them well for their studies. It is also a unique opportunity for our scholars to meet each other and discuss their journeys to Bath as well to network with one another.
