The Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) assesses the University’s performance in Knowledge Exchange relative to a Cluster of 19 other similar institutions across a range of seven measures known as perspectives.

The University of Bath is included in Cluster X and each perspective is calculated from a three-year average of a range of metrics where possible.

The University of Bath has substantially outperformed the Cluster in the three perspectives “Working with Businesses”, “IP and Commercialisation”, and “CPD and Graduate Start-Ups”.

In two other perspectives – Research Partnerships, and Local Growth and Regeneration – our outcomes are comparable to those across the cluster.

“Working with the public and third sector” has reported a relative improvement to the cluster compared to KEF1 and is now in line with the Cluster X average.

Professor Jonathan Knight, Vice-President Enterprise, at the University of Bath says:

I would like to thank everyone involved in the KEF submission and all of those who have done the work 'on the ground' that has contributed to these latest KEF2 results.

The results of KEF2 demonstrate a continuing commitment by the University of Bath to strengthen knowledge Exchange. The assessment indicates that we are strongly competitive with Cluster X across the seven perspectives, reflecting the ongoing focus of the University to deliver its institutional action plan in order to contribute to societal and economic prosperity.

Caroline Quest, Director of Research and Innovation Services (RIS) which manages the administration of the KEF for the University of Bath, says:

The results of the KEF2 demonstrate an ongoing commitment at the University of Bath to deliver excellent Knowledge Exchange activities and outcomes. As further strategic plans continue to be implemented, I’m excited by the prospective of expanding Bath’s KE capabilities and performance to support and benefit researchers and the wider community beyond.

It is worth noting that there have been slight changes to the presentation and calculation of data for KEF2 compared to KEF1. Most noticeably, the data for each perspective is now presented in quintiles and not deciles and a scaling step used in KEF1 to calculate a respective perspective has been removed, allowing each metric to be equally represented. Narrative statements remain unchanged from KEF1.
