Dr Roger Jardine has been appointed Director of Research Computing at the University of Bath.

In this new role, Roger will work closely with researchers to understand their current and future needs and ensure the University’s digital research infrastructure matches the University’s world-leading research.

Bath’s digital research infrastructure includes large-scale computing and research data storage facilities, research software packages, and importantly the staff that develop, maintain and support these resources.

Director of Research Computing is a new DDaT role. It follows Bath’s adoption of cloud supercomputing, demonstrating the University’s continued commitment to supporting academic research, enhancing critical research infrastructure, and delivering on its ambitious research agenda.

Dr Jardine commented: ”My first priority as Director of Research Computing will be to work with a broad range of researchers to understand their computing and data needs, current practices, challenges and opportunities.

My work will be focused on improving our current infrastructure and capabilities, ensuring we can continue recruiting excellent staff, and considering new services that the research computing team could deliver to ensure we support all researchers, whatever their digital research infrastructure needs are."

Professor Sarah Hainsworth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), added: “Research computing is an important part of our research infrastructure at Bath. I am pleased that DDAT is working to improve our connections to researchers and to deliver an improved service. Roger's role is an important step in that process, and I look forward to working with Roger in this key area for delivering high impact research.”
