The Dynamic Reaction Monitoring Facility (DReaM) hosted the 3rd Reaction Monitoring Symposium on the 31st January 2020, in collaboration with the Catalysis Hub. The symposium was held in the Chancellors' Building with over 100 delegates in attendance.

Attendees were first treated to the morning session featuring talks from Prof Christina Thiele (TU Darmstadt, Germany) and Dr Paul Kamer (Leibniz Institute for Catalysis, Germany). These talks covered various uses of NMR and IR spectroscopy.

Over lunch, delegates were able to network with with exhibitors and poster presenters, allowing for potential collaborations to be discussed.

Talks continued after lunch with Dr Meghan Halse (University of York, UK), Dr Anthony Haynes (University of Sheffield, UK) and Dr Ulrich Hintermair (CSCT, University of Bath, UK), which gave the audience plenty of different chemistry and new techniques to consider.

After the judging of the poster session, the third session of the day opened with Prof Clark Landis's keynote talk (University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA) titled "Monitoring Reactions by NMR: Fast Timescales and High Pressures".

Poster prizes were won by Ole Osterthun (RWTH Aachen University, Germany) and the University of Bath's Isabel Thomlinson. This was followed up with a panel discussion featuring industrial experts from AstraZeneca, Mestrelab and Bruker. This generated lively discussion around the key topic for debate "Catalysis and beyond: Other areas of application for reaction monitoring".

Sponsorship

We would like to thank the Dalton Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry, for generous sponsorship of the event.

The symposium was also made possible by our exhibitors - Asynt, Bruker, Clairet Scientific, Cole-Parmer, Endress and Hauser, Hiden Analytical, Magritek, Mestrelab, Mettler-Toledo, Microsaic Systems, TgK Scientific and Waters.

Interested in using the Dynamic Reaction Monitoring (DReaM) Facility?

The DReaM Facility gives researchers the chance to monitor homogeneous reactions in real-time, under normal reaction conditions, using a variety of analytical techniques. In addition to obtaining reaction kinetics, the DReaM Facility can also help researchers shed light on reaction intermediates and by-products.

We have a call for external proposals on a six monthly basis, to access paid time at the DReaM Facility. Visit our webpages for more information.
