Membership

Senate welcomed Jack Kitchen, the recently elected student representative on Senate.

HEFCE Report

The University Secretary and Vice-Chancellor gave an update on the report recently published by HEFCE concerning governance surrounding senior pay at the University.

Vice-Chancellor’s report

The Vice-Chancellor presented her report on key issues facing the University, including the regulatory framework consultation relating to the Office for Students.

Admissions

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost, Professor Bernie Morley, gave an update on student registrations for 2017.

Equality and Diversity

Senate discussed the Annual Report of the Equality and Diversity Committee and the Annual Report on progress against the Statement of Equality Objectives.

Library

The University Librarian presented her annual report.

Independent Advisor for Postgraduate Research Students

Senate discussed the annual report of the University Independent Advisor for Postgraduate Research Students and noted action being taken.

Education Strategy

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching), Professor Peter Lambert, gave an oral update on the ongoing consultations regarding the transformation of the University’s curricula and assessment.

Sports Volunteer Coach Award

Senate discussed and approved a proposed new Sports Volunteer Coach Award.

New Academic Programmes

As recommended by the Programmes and Partnerships Approval Committee, Senate agreed to grant full and final approval to the following academic programmes from 2018/19, subject to minor amendments: - BSc Hons Criminology; - BSc Hons Criminology with Placement - MSc Machine Learning and Autonomous Systems - MSc Machine Learning and Autonomous Systems with year-long placement with exit awards of

Committee memberships

Senate appointed Dr Bruce Rayton to Court until 31 July 2018.

Vote on Motion

After the Vice-Chancellor had left the meeting, there was discussion of a motion of No Confidence in the Vice-Chancellor, which was defeated in a secret ballot.
