The University is saddened to announce the death of Jim Stewart, who worked in ahs as a Domestic Assistant.

Jane Loveys, Director of ahs, said Jim’s colleagues have shared their reflections of him:

“Jim was a kind-hearted, warm and much-loved member of the City Accommodation team. Always friendly and approachable, he loved to meet and interact with students, get to know new people and learn about their backgrounds and cultures. Very easy to get along with, Jim enjoyed helping and supporting those he met with advice and guidance and would often go out of his way to help residents with questions or queries.

“He had a great passion for the environment and animal welfare which he enjoyed talking about with friends. His cats, that were close companions of his at home, were often in the conversation and he was a keen bird spotter and supporter of the Donkey Sanctuary. He was a great story-teller with a fascinating history to tell – usually around his previous role as a footman in the Royal Household.

“The news of his passing came with great shock and sadness to those that knew him at the University, especially as he was always so full of life and warmth to others. He will be greatly missed.”

Jim’s funeral will be held at Weston-Super-Mare Crematorium on Friday 8 October at 12.30pm. Some of his colleagues are attending, the family have requested no flowers and any donations should be made to the World Wide Fund for Nature.

We know that Jim’s death will affect fellow colleagues and friends and a range of support is available for our staff and students:
