We are inviting students today to complete the Jisc Digital Experience Student Insights Survey. This important survey will help us enhance our students' digital experience at Bath and equip them to compete more successfully in an increasingly challenging employment market. Please encourage your students to take part.

This is the first time the University of Bath has participated in Jisc's annual national survey. Run as part of a collaboration between the Centre for Learning & Teaching, Digital, Data & Technology and the Skills Centre, it forms part of an ongoing pilot project to build a more detailed understanding of students’ needs in this critical area of skills development.

Together with the initial data captured from the Jisc Digital Skills Self-Assessment Tool, launched last September, this new survey will help us to:

  • Identify gaps in digital skills provision for students and other barriers
  • Create targeted and practical support and resources based on student need
  • Establish baseline data to monitor year on year improvements
  • Support digital leaders across the University to embed digital skills development in the curriculum
  • Benchmark our progress against other institutions nationally
  • Explore which aspects of digital skills development need to be addressed within academic programmes and which delivered centrally.

Dr Sarah Moore, Senior Lecturer in Sociology in the Department of Social and Policy Sciences, who heads up the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences' Digital Leaders Group, said:

Developing our students' digital capabilities is high on our agenda in H&SS as we recognise the importance of helping equip them with the skills they need to succeed in their studies and in today's digital workforce. We're excited that the Jisc Digital Experience Student Insights Survey will provide us with some of the data we need to start meaningful conversations with our students about their digital skills, expectations and experiences, as well as inform how we integrate digital skills in our programmes.

All Bath-based non final-year undergraduate students have been invited to complete the survey by 14 April 2021.

Please encourage your students to have their say and help shape our digital skills support for students now and in the future. We will update you on the results of the survey and how we plan to use its valuable insights in due course.
