The University of Bath is pleased to announce the successful applications of five students to the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program.

Mitacs is an organisation that facilitates links between the private sector and education institutions both abroad and within Canada to encourage research and find solutions to organisational problems in a variety of academic disciplines.

The Globalink Research Internship is a competitive initiative that accepts applications from international undergraduate students in fifteen countries. Only the best applicants are hosted at one of Mitacs’ seventy partners across Canada for twelve weeks to undertake research. Five students from the University of Bath have successfully applied to the program and will receive the opportunity to undertake fully-funded internships which are also subsidised to cover much of their stay abroad.

Applications were opened to high achieving students, who were asked to make a choice of three to seven pre-existing research projects designed by researchers in Canada. The following students have been successful in securing an internship position under the program.

  • Matthew Ferguson will be hosted at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg to undertake a project titled ‘Data gathering and comparison of 4 methods to measure river velocities’

  • At the University of Toronto Ka Chun Tobias Ng will be researching ‘Glass FRP reinforced concrete structures under changing climate conditions’

  • In Montréal Daphne Psarra will be investigating ‘Brain Stimulation with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation’ at McGill University

  • Diego Fernandez Gomez-Monche will be researching ‘Process Systems Engineering' at the University of Waterloo

  • At the University of Ottawa Michaela Jaysain Sasha Clarke Brown will be researching ‘Lipid-Protein Interaction on ABC Cholesterol Transporters’

Students will now begin to work with their Canadian host professors to prepare for their internship before starting their twelve-week program at the host universities across Canada.

We wish students the best of luck as they get ready to undertake their research projects in Canada, and we are so excited to hear all about their time abroad and the discoveries they make through the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship.
