University of Bath has re-engaged with WISE to complement other initiatives, awards and activities, e.g. our Athena Swan institutional and departmental action plans, Statement of Equality Objectives, as we aim to further increase support available for staff and students interested in pursuing careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).

WISE membership will allow all colleagues and students to access WISE Library online, including case studies, webinars and exclusive diversity and inclusion resources. By being members of WISE, we also demonstrate to internal and external stakeholders our commitment to improving gender balance in science and engineering.

The two Faculties that co-funded the membership (a joint FoS/E&D sponsorship) will also have access to complimentary job adverts to showcase ourselves as an employer of choice and be able to increase access to a more diverse pool of candidates.

Prof Tim Ibell, Dean in the Faculty of Engineering and Design, said: "The STEM sector still has so far to go to achieve gender balance and equality, which is why WISE plays such an important role in inspiring, encouraging and supporting female scientists and engineers to live out their dreams, not only for their individual benefits but also for the benefit of all society. Diverse teams are strong teams, after all."

Prof Nick Brook, Dean in the Faculty of Sciences, added: "An environment that encourages equality & diversity can only pay dividends for the aspirations for both individuals and the Faculty. Accessing the expertise and resources that exist within WISE will help create that environment and support the development of the next generation of scientists and engineers whatever their background."

Colleagues and students can access exclusive member content by registering to WISE with their University (@bath.ac.uk) email address. You can also connect with other members and join a WISE regional hub, support your outreach efforts encouraging girls to consider careers in STEM through My Skills My Life resource and attend inspiring events. WISE membership is open to all gender identities.

Abigail Lyons, Head of Talent Acquisition in HR , notes that being a member of WISE will provide us with increased visibility in our recruitment too. She says this allows us to further broaden our applicant pool, as well as continuing both institutional and departmental projects to raise awareness of the importance and benefit of having a diverse workforce.

Finally, Dr Marion Harney, Associate Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Engineering and Design and University's Athena Swan Leader, commented that WISE provides a great focus for materials and expertise to encourage girls and women to pursue careers in Science and Engineering. She adds: "At Bath, we recognise this work as vital to the future and we are keen to contribute."
