The global #1 business incubator SETsquared, which includes the University of Bath, is recognising success throughout the enterprise partnership with their annual awards which are now open for voting.
The awards are part of the national SETsquared conference taking place online from 25 to 29 January. Voting will close on Friday when the winners will be announced on the last day of the conference.

Category: Achievement - Professor Manuch Solemani and the KTP team
A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) from the University of Bath, with leading UK manufacturer NiftyLift, was awarded ‘Outstanding’ by Innovate UK. The partnership developed an intelligent sensor system for NiftyLift’s range of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), enabling them to detect power lines and improve operator safety, saving the lives of workers using them.
The KTP team in Research and Innovation Services (RIS) at the University of Bath managed the KTP, which was led by Professor Manuch Solemani from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and the University’s Engineering Tomography Lab (ETL).
The Knowledge Transfer Adviser and Monitoring Officer for Innovate UK’s Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), said: “This outstanding project is the result of an exceptionally good relationship and shared vision amongst the project partners."
The KTP and has significantly improved and innovated NiftyLift’s portfolio of products for the global market.
Category: Impact - Professor Matthew Davidson, Director of the Centre for Sustainable and Circular Technologies (CSTC)
Professor Davidson, as Director of the Centre for Sustainable and Circular Technologies, has been instrumental in tackling the environmental impact of plastic waste, key to the UK’s industrial strategy for clean growth. Through the Centre, research, and working with companies on their real-world needs, Professor Davidson has been leading the development of sustainable products, services and processes for a circular economy.
His impact and leadership was acknowledged in a recent report entitled ‘Partnerships for the Planet’, from the National Centre for Universities and Business. He was quoted saying: “Working with high growth companies like Recycling Technologies & Naturbeads, as well as with global partners such as Total Corbion, has demonstrated real demand for the University of Bath’s CSCT resources and capabilities in sustainable plastic.”
He is cited as finding innovative ways to replace plastic and create more sustainable products through the important contribution of CSCT.

Keeping the Innovation Centre going? Making it covid-safe for all the users? Communicating clearly with everyone despite the constantly changing situation? Missing a key part of the management team and still nailing it? Nicola, Danielle and Sophie deserve this award for the way they have managed not only to hold things together but to drive things forward at the Innovation Centre.
The ground floor may have been turned into a Covid-testing centre and there may be 4 floors of isolating students above us but Nicola, Danielle and Sophie have been going in at the crack of dawn to organise the post, members access cards, phone calls, office set up, one-way systems, repairs and tradesmen and cleaning. No one will have seen them in the office but everyone who has used the innovation centre since March has only done so safely because of them and I think we owe them a huge thank you.
